FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which agricultural finance lender has the lowest rate?

As at October 2026, Close Brothers and Black Horse both offer rates from 5.5%–5.6% on new machinery hire purchase. The lowest rate will depend on asset type, term, deposit and your business profile. We compare the full panel for every enquiry.

What is the difference between independent and captive lenders?

Independent lenders such as Close Brothers, Aldermore and Shawbrook operate across all makes and models and finance new and used assets. Captive lenders - Black Horse (Agco), Lombard (CNH), BNP Paribas Leasing (CLAAS, Fendt) - are aligned to specific manufacturers and often offer subsidised promotional rates on new models.

Can I use more than one lender for different assets?

Yes - and this is often the optimal strategy. You might use a manufacturer captive rate for a new tractor purchase and an independent lender for a used trailer or grain store, combining the best rate available for each asset. We can co-ordinate multi-lender packages.

How do lenders assess agricultural businesses?

Most lenders look at 2–3 years of farm accounts, net farm income, existing borrowing levels, asset type and condition, and the farm's overall balance sheet. Seasonal income patterns are generally well understood by agricultural lenders and do not typically disadvantage farmers.

How do I get the best agricultural finance rate?

The most effective approach is to use an independent broker like Doulton Bridging Finance who can access the full lender panel - both independent and captive - and present your application in the strongest possible light. We charge no broker fee to farming businesses.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, asset and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your asset may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
