The Challenge
A recently retired teacher from the Cotswolds had been visiting Corfu for twenty years and purchased a traditional olive grove villa near Kassiopi. Greek mortgage finance for non-residents requires an AFM tax number, Greek bank account, and careful legal due diligence on title - particularly regarding agricultural land.
Our Solution
Doulton managed the AFM registration, Greek bank account opening, and engaged a local dikigoros (lawyer) to conduct title due diligence, including checks on any EU agricultural restrictions on the land. The mortgage was placed with a Greek bank with a non-resident programme.
The Outcome
Villa purchased with clean title confirmed. Used as a summer retreat. The dikigoros confirmed no restrictions on the land. AFM registration now enabling Greek tax filing. Key highlights: AFM tax number and Greek bank account managed; Agricultural land title fully checked by dikigoros; Non-resident Greek mortgage placed successfully.
