Can Non-UK Residents Finance a Supercar?
UK motor finance is generally available only to UK residents. However, there are routes for non-residents purchasing in the UK - primarily through private banking relationships or specialist lenders willing to underwrite foreign nationals with significant UK-based assets or business interests.
Key Criteria for Non-Resident Applicants
- UK bank account in the applicant's name (required for direct debit payments)
- Proof of UK address or long-term UK presence (visa, lease, utility bills)
- Income evidence from the home country (tax returns, payslips, accounts)
- A UK-registered vehicle (most lenders will not fund vehicles registered abroad)
- UK-based comprehensive agreed-value insurance
Legal Considerations
The Consumer Credit Act 1974 regulates UK motor finance. Lenders must be FCA-authorised to offer regulated credit. Non-UK residents may fall outside regulated credit protections; our lenders will advise on this at point of application.
Practical Alternatives
For non-residents who cannot access UK motor finance, cash purchase with UK vehicle storage and management may be more practical. International private banks with UK operations - such as Investec or Coutts - may be able to provide facilities within their wider banking relationship.
