Electric Farm Vehicle Finance - EV Options for Agriculture

Electric agricultural vehicles are arriving on UK farms faster than many expected. This guide covers EV finance options, available models, lender appetite and the grants that can reduce your upfront cost.

Electric Agricultural Vehicles Available in the UK

Electric ATVs

Vehicles such as the Kawasaki Elektrax and various import models offer silent, zero-emission operation ideal for livestock work. Range typically 40–80 miles per charge.

Electric UTVs

Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic, John Deere Gator EV and SABI Agri EV UTV. Load capacity comparable to diesel equivalents with lower running costs.

Electric Pickups

Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T and LDV T60 EV are entering UK agricultural use. Towing capacity and payload are now competitive with diesel alternatives.

Electric Specialist Vehicles

Purpose-built electric farm utility vehicles from manufacturers including Monarch Tractor and Solectrac are increasingly available to UK farms.

Financing Electric Farm Vehicles

Electric agricultural vehicles are financed in broadly the same way as their diesel equivalents - HP, finance lease and operating lease are all available. However, a few additional considerations apply:

  • Battery ownership: Most current EVs include the battery in the purchase price. Confirm with the manufacturer whether the battery is owned or leased separately - this affects the asset value for finance purposes.
  • Residual value: EV residual values are less established than diesel equivalents, which may affect finance lease calculations. Some lenders are conservative on EV residuals.
  • Lender appetite: All of our panel lenders are developing EV capability. Contact us for the latest position on specific models.
  • Green finance: Some lenders offer preferential rates for electric vehicles as part of their sustainability commitments. We will flag these where available.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I finance an electric ATV or UTV for my farm?

Yes - electric ATVs and UTVs are financed in the same way as diesel equivalents through HP or finance lease. Lender appetite for specific models is developing; contact us with the make and model you are considering.

Are EV farm vehicles eligible for capital allowances?

Qualifying zero-emission vehicles are eligible for a 100% first-year capital allowance, meaning the full cost is deductible in the year of purchase. Confirm eligibility with your accountant.

Do electric farm vehicles attract better finance rates?

Some lenders offer preferential green finance rates for qualifying electric vehicles. The difference is currently modest (0.1–0.3 percentage points in most cases) but this is developing. We will always flag the best available rate.

What is the realistic range of an electric farm ATV?

Current electric ATVs offer 40–80 miles of range per charge depending on terrain and load. For most livestock and estate management tasks this is sufficient, though farms with large land areas should assess their specific daily range requirements.

Can I combine an EV grant with agricultural vehicle finance?

Yes - in most cases, grants reduce the purchase price, and finance is arranged on the net amount after the grant. The Plug-in Van Grant, for example, is applied at the point of purchase, and you finance the balance.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, asset and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your asset may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
