Why Bespoke Bodywork Matters to Lenders
A standard 7.5t truck has a predictable resale value. The same truck with a £50,000 vacuum tanker body has a combined value that is higher - but the secondary market for the combined unit is narrower.
Specialist lenders assess the business case: who operates the vehicle, what contracts it serves, and what similar bespoke units sell for at specialist auction. Standard lenders stop at the chassis value. Rates are 0.5-1.0% higher for bespoke assets, reflecting additional underwriting.
How Bespoke Bodywork is Funded
In most cases, the chassis and bespoke body are funded as a single combined asset under one agreement. The lender takes a charge over the complete vehicle. This is simpler than two separate agreements and typically produces a lower blended rate.
Where the body is detachable and separately saleable (e.g. a demountable vacuum unit or a self-loading cable drum trailer), it may be funded under a second separate agreement at a slightly different rate.
What Information Do Lenders Need?
Asset specification: OEM, model, body maker, capacity/rating, year of manufacture.
2 years of business accounts or management accounts.
Brief project or contract description if the asset is funded against a specific project.
For assets over £250,000: asset inspection report and, where relevant, specialist valuation.
