About Lombard Yacht Import Finance

Lombard, part of NatWest Group and one of the UK's largest asset finance providers, offers yacht import finance at the most competitive rates available through our panel - from 5.9% APR. However, Lombard's criteria are among the most stringent: they require that the vessel is either UK VAT-paid or EU VAT-paid with full supporting documentation, and will not consider vessels where VAT status is unclear, disputed or currently under HMRC review. Additionally, Lombard expects the borrower to have an existing NatWest/RBS banking relationship or to open one, which can be a consideration for some applicants.

For buyers who qualify - purchasing a well-documented European yacht with clean VAT history, strong personal or business credit, and the ability to fund a 25% or greater deposit - Lombard offers terms to 12 years, up to 75% LTV and some of the most attractive monthly payment structures in the specialist marine lending market. Their minimum advance of £50,000 reflects the size of transaction they are targeting.

Lombard's marine finance team is experienced, their documentation requirements are clearly communicated, and their credit decisions - while thorough - are relatively swift for pre-packaged applications submitted by brokers. Doulton Bridging Finance has an established relationship with Lombard's marine division and can facilitate introductions and pre-application discussions for suitable clients. If your import case is straightforward and well-documented, Lombard should be the first lender we model for you.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Why does Lombard offer the lowest rates for yacht import finance?

Lombard's lower rates reflect their institutional cost of funds (as part of NatWest Group) and their strict eligibility criteria. By accepting only the cleanest, best-documented cases, they take on lower risk and can price accordingly.

What VAT documentation does Lombard require for import finance?

Lombard require full VAT paid receipts or certificates - either UK VAT paid at point of import, or EU VAT paid with documentation confirming the vessel was VAT-paid in the EU prior to 1 January 2021. Vessels with uncertain VAT history will not be considered.

Do I need to be a NatWest customer to access Lombard yacht import finance?

Lombard prefer applicants who have or are willing to open a NatWest or RBS business or personal banking relationship. This is not always an absolute requirement but is a preference that can affect pricing and credit appetite.

What vessel types does Lombard consider for import finance?

Lombard funds both sailing yachts and motor yachts via their marine import product, with a minimum value of approximately £65,000 at 75% LTV. Contemporary vessels (typically under 20 years old) are preferred; older classic vessels may require enhanced survey.

How quickly can Lombard issue a credit decision for import finance?

For pre-packaged broker applications with complete documentation, Lombard typically issues a decision within 5–7 working days. Doulton Bridging Finance prepares application packs that meet Lombard's specific requirements, minimising delays.

Finance taken for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, vessel and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your vessel may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
