When a JCB dealer presents you with finance at the point of sale, they're typically offering JCB Finance - a captive lending product underwritten by Lloyds Bank and available exclusively through the JCB dealer network. For some purchases, particularly when JCB is running a manufacturer-funded promotional rate, this will genuinely be the cheapest option in the market. For everything else, you almost certainly haven't seen the best available rate.
The critical question is whether you're in a promotional period, and whether you qualify for it. JCB periodically subsidises finance rates on new machines - sometimes to 0% for short terms, or 4.9% for longer arrangements - as a sales incentive. These subsidised rates come from JCB's marketing budget and are genuine market-beaters. But they apply only to new JCB machines bought through authorised dealers, and not every buyer or machine specification will qualify.

When JCB Finance Wins
- A manufacturer-funded promotional rate of 0% or sub-5% is actively running at the time you're buying
- You're buying a new JCB machine from an authorised dealer and your credit profile qualifies for the promotional rate
- The total cost of finance (rate × amount × term) is lower than any independently sourced quote - always run the numbers, not just the headline rate
- Speed is critical and the dealer already has a finance approval in place; you don't need to wait for an independent broker's lender panel
When an Independent Broker Wins
- No promotional rate is running, or you don't qualify for it - standard JCB Finance rates of 4.9–9.9% are not uniquely competitive
- You're buying a used JCB excavator - JCB Finance's appetite for second-hand machines is limited
- You want to buy a different brand (Volvo, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr) - JCB Finance won't help here at all
- Your business has adverse credit or is a sole trader - an independent broker can access specialist lenders Lloyds/JCB Finance cannot reach
- You need a rate comparison to check whether the dealer quote represents genuine value
- You want flexibility in the finance structure (operating lease, refinance, balloon payments) beyond the standard dealer products
