Komatsu Finance vs Independent Broker for Excavators

Komatsu Finance is a capable captive product for new PC-series excavator buyers - particularly when promotional rates are running. But it covers only new Komatsu machines. For used Komatsu, any other brand, or buyers who need specialist underwriting, an independent broker wins every time.

Komatsu, one of the world's largest construction equipment manufacturers and the maker of the PC-series excavator range, operates a captive finance offering in the UK to support dealer sales. Komatsu Financial (as it's known in the UK market) provides HP and Finance Lease products on new Komatsu machinery, integrated directly into the dealer purchase process.

For UK buyers of the popular PC138, PC210, PC290 or larger Komatsu excavators, the dealer will typically present Komatsu Financial as the first finance option. The rates can be competitive - and during promotional periods tied to model launches or dealer push programmes, may include subsidised rates that represent genuine value. Outside those periods, however, Komatsu Financial's standard pricing is in line with the broader market, and often beatable by independent lenders who aren't constrained to a single brand.

When Komatsu Financial Wins

  • A manufacturer-subsidised promotional rate is running on the specific PC-series model you're buying at the time of purchase
  • You're a limited company with clean credit buying a new Komatsu from an authorised dealer
  • The dealer can provide written confirmation of the promotional rate and it compares favourably to an independent quote on a total cost of finance basis
  • Speed is paramount and the dealer's integrated process means funds will clear faster than a separately arranged finance agreement

When an Independent Broker Wins

  • No promotional rate is running, and standard Komatsu Financial rates of 4.5–10% are bettered by independent lenders
  • You're buying a used Komatsu excavator - independent lenders have a far broader appetite for second-hand Komatsu plant than the captive lender
  • You're a sole trader, partnership or business with adverse credit - Komatsu Financial's criteria are too restrictive
  • You want to compare Komatsu against JCB, Volvo or Hitachi without switching between different finance products
  • You need an operating lease with a guaranteed residual, or a refinance arrangement on existing Komatsu plant

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is Komatsu Finance cheaper than using an independent broker for excavators?

Komatsu Finance offers competitive rates on new Komatsu machines, typically 4.5–10% APR. Whether this beats an independent broker depends on the specific promotional period and your business profile. For used Komatsu machines or any non-Komatsu brand, an independent broker will consistently offer better rates and more flexibility.

What Komatsu models does Komatsu Finance cover?

Komatsu Finance focuses on new Komatsu PC-series excavators - from the PC30 compact range through to large PC490 and above. They do not finance non-Komatsu equipment, and their appetite for used machines is primarily limited to Komatsu-certified used equipment sold through the dealer network.

Can I get Komatsu Finance if I'm a sole trader?

Komatsu Finance's underwriting criteria are aligned with mainstream commercial banking standards. Sole traders are considered on a case-by-case basis but are not the core target market. For sole traders needing Komatsu excavator finance, Close Brothers, Haydock or Time Finance typically offer a more accessible route.

What are Komatsu Finance's standard rates for excavators?

Komatsu Finance's excavator rates range from approximately 4.5% to 10% APR. Promotional rates may be available on selected models at specific times. Outside promotions, independent lenders at 4–8% for clean credits represent viable alternatives.

Will an independent broker finance Komatsu excavators?

Yes. All independent asset finance lenders on our panel - including Close Brothers, Lombard, Shawbrook, Aldermore and Novuna - will finance Komatsu excavators without brand restriction.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, equipment and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your equipment may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
