Injection Moulding Finance

How to Finance an Injection Moulding Machine: UK Guide

A practical guide to injection moulding machine finance for UK manufacturers - covering HP, Finance Lease, eligibility, and a worked cost example.

What Is Injection Moulding Finance?

Injection moulding finance is a type of asset finance that allows UK manufacturers to acquire injection moulding presses, hot runner systems, ancillary equipment, and mould tooling without paying the full purchase price upfront. Instead, the cost is spread over a fixed monthly repayment period - typically 2–7 years - with interest charged on the outstanding balance.

The most common products are Hire Purchase (HP) and Finance Lease, both of which are available through our panel of 8 specialist lenders. For high-value presses above £200k, Operating Lease is also worth considering if ownership at the end of the term is not a priority.

Finance Options Available for Injection Moulding Equipment

Hire Purchase (HP)

You pay a deposit (0–10%) then fixed monthly instalments over 2–7 years. At the end of the term, ownership transfers to you. Capital allowances are available. Best for businesses that want to own the asset outright.

Finance Lease

The lender owns the asset; you lease it for an agreed term. Monthly rentals are 100% tax-deductible. No balloon payment. At end of term, you can continue renting at a peppercorn rate or arrange a secondary lease. Best for businesses prioritising P&L treatment.

Operating Lease

You pay for use of the machine during the lease period; the lender carries the residual value risk. Monthly payments are lower than HP or Finance Lease but you don't own the asset. Suited to businesses that regularly upgrade machinery.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What credit score do I need to finance an injection moulding machine?

There is no universal minimum score - each lender sets its own criteria. High-street lenders (Lloyds, HSBC) expect clean credit with no CCJs in the past 3 years. Specialist lenders like Close Brothers and Shawbrook are more flexible and will consider minor adverse credit.

Can I finance an injection moulding machine if I'm a sole trader?

Yes - Aldermore, Close Brothers, and Nucleus will all consider sole trader applications. Your personal credit history and bank statements will carry more weight than filed accounts in this case.

What is the difference between hire purchase and finance lease for injection moulding equipment?

With HP, you own the machine outright at the end of the term (once a final nominal payment is made). With Finance Lease, the lender retains legal ownership but you benefit from use of the asset - the monthly rentals are 100% tax-deductible as a business expense. The right choice depends on your tax position, balance-sheet strategy, and whether you want to own the asset.

How much deposit do I need for injection moulding machine finance?

Deposit requirements vary by lender: Lloyds, HSBC, and Barclays typically require 10%, while Close Brothers, Aldermore, Shawbrook, and Nucleus regularly offer 100% finance with no deposit. The deposit requirement often affects the interest rate - a 10% deposit typically reduces the rate by 0.5–1.5%.

Can I include installation and tooling costs in my injection moulding finance?

Most lenders will allow installation costs and ancillary tooling to be bundled into the finance facility, subject to the overall lending cap. Large standalone mould tooling packages may require a separate facility or a specific tooling finance product.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, asset and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your asset may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
