Cheapest Rates for CTV Finance

For crew transfer vessel finance in the £500,000–£3m range, HSBC and NatWest offer the lowest headline rates - from 5.5% per annum - but both require existing or new-to-bank relationships. For operators who do not have a clearing bank relationship, Lombard (from 6%) and Clydesdale (from 6.5%) offer the next most competitive pricing with genuine appetite for CTV assets.

For smaller CTV transactions below £500,000 - including fast crew boats and older vessels - Close Brothers (from 7%) and Paragon (from 7%) offer the best combination of rate and flexibility. Both have genuine maritime asset finance experience and understand offshore wind contracting income.

Best Lenders for Large SOVs

Service operation vessels (SOVs) typically require facilities of £5m–£30m or more. This is beyond the appetite of most challenger bank lenders and requires either a clearing bank relationship (HSBC, NatWest, Lombard) or specialist large-ticket lenders. Siemens Financial Services is the standout option for SOV finance above £1m - their 15-year terms and 80% LTV are unmatched in the market, and their parent company's position in offshore wind gives them genuine sector understanding.

For SOVs being financed under long-term bareboat or time charter agreements with tier-one offshore wind operators (Ørsted, SSE, Vattenfall, RWE), project finance structures may achieve better pricing than standard commercial lending. DBF can arrange project finance and syndicated structures for larger deals.

Best for New-Build CTVs

Lombard has the strongest appetite for new-build CTV finance of any lender on our panel. Their finance lease structure suits operators who prefer off-balance-sheet treatment, and their NatWest Group backing gives them the credit capacity for larger commitments. HSBC can also support new-build CTVs, particularly where a clean maritime plan or ESG narrative is part of the borrower's strategy.

New-build finance requires a stage-payment facility aligned to the shipbuilder's draw schedule. DBF structures these facilities carefully - ensuring drawdown conditions, security, and completion risk are all appropriately managed in the facility agreement.

Clean Maritime Plan Angle

The UK Government's Clean Maritime Plan provides grant funding for zero-emission vessel demonstrators - including electric CTVs, hydrogen-hybrid OSVs, and other low-carbon maritime assets. For qualifying projects, grant support of up to 40% of eligible build costs is available from DEFRA/DfT funding programmes.

The grant is non-repayable and does not conflict with commercial debt - but it must be carefully integrated into the financing structure. DBF specialises in co-finance arrangements that stack grant and commercial debt, ensuring drawdown timelines, security structures, and covenant packages are aligned. See our Clean Maritime Plan grants guide for full details.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which lender offers the lowest rates for CTV finance in October 2026?

HSBC and NatWest offer the lowest headline rates - 5.5% per annum for the strongest borrower covenants - but both require existing or new-to-bank relationships and minimum facilities of £500,000. For borrowers who don't bank with HSBC or NatWest, Lombard and Clydesdale (both from 6%) are typically the next lowest-rate options. For deals below £500,000, Close Brothers (from 7%) is the most competitive mainstream option.

Which lender is best for large SOV finance (£5m+)?

For service operation vessels above £5m, Siemens Financial Services is the specialist lender of choice. Their large-ticket capability (no ceiling) and long 15-year terms significantly reduce monthly capital servicing compared to shorter-term facilities from clearing banks. HSBC and Lombard can also consider large SOVs where the borrower has an existing relationship. Above £15m, syndicated or project finance structures may be required - DBF can arrange these.

Is there a lender that specialises in new-build zero-emission CTVs?

Lombard and HSBC both have active green finance frameworks and appetite for new-build electric and hydrogen-hybrid CTVs. For projects also accessing Clean Maritime Plan grant funding, we structure the commercial debt around the grant drawdown schedule. Siemens Financial Services also has a strong track record in financing zero-emission maritime assets given their parent company's position in renewable energy.

What is the maximum LTV available for OSV finance?

80% LTV is the maximum available from clearing banks and most specialist lenders for well-covenanted OSV and CTV transactions. Hampshire Trust, Close Brothers, Lombard, HSBC, NatWest, Clydesdale, and Siemens Financial Services all offer up to 80% LTV. Shawbrook, Paragon, and Wesleyan cap at 75% LTV. LTV is calculated against the lower of purchase price or independent valuation.

How do I find out which lender will give me the best rate for my specific CTV or OSV deal?

The fastest way is to contact DBF. We will take a brief on your deal - vessel type, value, your business profile, and any existing contracts - and come back with indicative terms from the most appropriate lenders within 24–48 hours. We do not charge for this initial assessment, and you are under no obligation to proceed.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, vessel and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your vessel may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
