How Used Tractor Finance Works
Used tractor finance operates on the same principles as new equipment finance - hire purchase, finance lease or operating lease - but with additional lender criteria around asset age, condition and hours.
Most lenders will accept used tractors up to a certain age at the end of the finance term (not just at the start). A tractor that will be 12 years old at the end of a 5-year term may only be eligible with specialist lenders.

Tips for Used Tractor Finance
Service history
A full service history increases lender confidence in the asset and can reduce the rate premium for used equipment.
Engineer's report
For high-value or older used tractors, some lenders require an independent engineer's inspection report. Your broker will advise if this applies.
Hours
Engine hours are considered alongside age. A newer tractor with very high hours may be treated similarly to an older model by lenders.
Deposit
A larger deposit (15–20%) improves eligibility for used equipment, particularly with lenders that have tighter age limits.
