7 Factors That Determine Your Rate

  1. 1Business age and credit history - established businesses with clean credit attract the keenest rates
  2. 2Asset type and age - new hard assets attract lower rates than old or soft assets
  3. 3Finance amount - larger facilities often attract better rates
  4. 4Deposit percentage - more deposit = lower risk = lower rate
  5. 5Term - shorter terms are lower risk but higher monthly cost
  6. 6Sector - manufacturing is generally viewed favourably by lenders
  7. 7Director personal credit - reviewed by most lenders alongside business credit

How Using a Broker Beats Going Direct

When you approach a single lender directly, you receive one rate at their current standard pricing. A specialist broker like Doulton Bridging Finance presents your case simultaneously to 130+ lenders, creating competitive tension. Lenders also offer brokers preferential pricing because of the volume of introduced business - rates we access are often 0.5–1.5% below their walk-in rates.

What DBF Does Differently

Unlike comparison sites that generate leads, DBF actually structures your case: we prepare a credit submission, present to multiple lenders, negotiate terms and manage the process to drawdown. We provide a written rate comparison so you can see exactly what each lender offered and why we recommend the chosen facility.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical HP rate for industrial equipment?

For established businesses (3+ years, clean credit, turnover over £500k), rates of 6.0–8.0% APR are typical. Smaller or newer businesses may pay 8.5–12%. The asset type, age and value also affect the rate.

Does the asset age affect the rate?

Yes. Lenders generally charge more for older assets as residual value risk is higher. A brand-new machine may attract 6.5%; the same model 5 years old might be 8.5–9.5%.

Is it better to use a broker or go direct to a lender?

A broker - particularly one with whole-of-market access like DBF - can usually achieve better rates than going direct. We negotiate on your behalf across 130+ lenders simultaneously and our volume means lenders offer preferred terms. Going direct means you see only one lender's product.

Do deposits affect the interest rate?

Usually yes. A larger deposit (20–30%) signals commitment and reduces lender risk, often resulting in a 0.5–1.0% rate reduction. DBF can advise on the optimal deposit level for your situation.

How does my credit score affect the rate?

Both business credit (via Experian Business, Creditsafe) and director personal credit are reviewed. Adverse markers - CCJs, defaults, missed payments - typically add 1.5–3.0% to the rate or result in a decline from prime lenders. DBF has specialist lenders for adverse credit profiles.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, asset and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your asset may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
