AGVs and AMRs as Financeable Assets
Automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots are increasingly used in UK warehouses, production facilities and distribution centres. They represent a significant capital investment - typically £20,000–£80,000 per unit - and are well-suited to asset finance for three reasons:
- High residual value - established manufacturer brands retain value over a 5–7 year finance term
- Measurable ROI - throughput and labour savings are quantifiable, making business case modelling straightforward
- Fleet scalability - businesses often start with 2–5 units and expand, making flexible finance structures valuable
Types of AGV and AMR Finance
Hire Purchase
Fixed payments, you own the fleet at term end. Qualifies for full expensing tax relief. Best for businesses committed to long-term use of the same platform.
Finance Lease
Lower monthly payments. Lender retains ownership. Option to upgrade at end of term. Suited to businesses in fast-moving sectors where technology will evolve.
Fleet Finance Facility
Single credit facility covering multiple AGVs or AMRs. Drawdown as units are delivered. Often more efficient than separate applications per unit.
