£1.8m Probate Bridging - Executors in Three Jurisdictions
£1.8 million · 19 days · private-lender facility. An estate required bridging to settle IHT before probate cleared, with executors based across the UK, France and Australia.
The Client
Estate executors of a UK-based deceased
The Challenge
An estate required bridging finance to settle inheritance tax before probate could be cleared. Three executors based across the UK, France and Australia created KYC and signing complexity that most mainstream and specialist lenders declined.
Our Solution
Doulton structured a £1.8m facility through a private lender comfortable with multi-jurisdiction executor KYC and remote signing. Estate valuation was used as the security basis with HMRC IHT calculation evidence supporting the loan amount. Funds were released directly to HMRC to settle the IHT charge.
The Outcome
Facility completed in 19 days. IHT settled, grant of probate issued, estate assets liquidated and bridge repaid in full from estate proceeds. The executors retained more value in the estate than would have been the case under a forced asset disposal. Key highlights: Multi-jurisdiction executor KYC accepted; Funds released directly to HMRC; Bridge repaid in full from estate proceeds.
