Aircraft Finance

Commercial Aviation Finance UK

Specialist finance for AOC operators, cargo carriers, charter airlines, air ambulance trusts and flying training organisations. We access the whole market - including lenders not available direct.

Why Commercial Aviation Finance is Different

Financing an aircraft for commercial operations is fundamentally different from private or business aviation finance. Lenders assess not just the asset but the business - your AOC, operator covenant, traffic rights, maintenance programme and revenue visibility all form part of the credit picture.

At Doulton Bridging Finance we specialise in placing complex aviation finance across the whole UK market. We work with specialist aviation lenders, major clearing banks and challenger asset finance houses to find the right structure for your operation - whether that's a single Cessna Caravan for a charter start-up or a multi-aircraft jet fleet for an established carrier.

Key Considerations for Commercial Aviation Finance

AOC Requirements

Lenders require a valid UK CAA AOC as a prerequisite for most commercial finance. Your operations specifications, maintenance approvals and safety management system will all form part of due diligence. We help you present your AOC documentation effectively.

Wet & Dry Lease Structures

Whether you are financing an aircraft to operate yourself, to place on ACMI wet-lease, or to sub-lease dry, the finance structure needs to reflect the operating model. We work with lenders experienced in all lease structures.

Pre-Delivery Payment Finance

Ordering a new aircraft from ATR, Embraer or Pilatus? PDP bridge loans allow you to fund stage payments during the build period, with the main facility completing on delivery. We have lenders experienced in manufacturer PDP schedules.

UK CAA Registration

Most lenders require G-registration for UK commercial operations. We can also assist with Isle of Man (M-reg) and Irish (EI-reg) registered aircraft for operators using offshore AOC structures.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is commercial aviation finance?

Commercial aviation finance covers the structured funding of aircraft used in revenue-generating operations - including HP, finance lease, operating lease and PDP facilities for AOC holders, cargo carriers, air ambulance trusts, ATOs and charter airlines.

Do I need an AOC to get commercial aircraft finance?

An AOC (Air Operator Certificate) from the UK CAA is required for most commercial operations. Lenders will typically require sight of your AOC, operations manual and maintenance approvals as part of their due diligence.

What deposit is typically required for commercial aircraft finance?

Most lenders require 20–35% deposit for commercial aircraft, though this varies by operator covenant strength, aircraft type, age, and lender appetite. Established AOC holders with strong management accounts may achieve lower deposits.

Can I finance a used commercial aircraft?

Yes. Most lenders will consider used commercial aircraft subject to satisfactory condition survey, maintenance records, and confirmation of airworthiness. Aircraft age limits vary by lender - typically up to 20–25 years at end of term.

How long does commercial aviation finance take to arrange?

Simple HP facilities for smaller aircraft can complete in 2–4 weeks. Complex structures involving SPVs, large commercial jets or international registrations may take 6–12 weeks. DBF manages the process from first enquiry to drawdown.

Asset finance for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, aircraft and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your aircraft may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
