Van Hire Purchase Rates - What to Expect

Indicative van hire purchase rates for new and used commercial vans. What affects your HP rate. Independent broker, whole of market. No obligation.

Van hire purchase rates depend on several factors - the age and value of the van, your business credit profile, the loan-to-value ratio, and which lender we match you with. As an independent broker with access to multiple lenders, we're not restricted to one bank's rate card. This page explains what to expect and what affects the rate you'll receive.

What affects your van HP rate?

Your credit profile is the single biggest factor. An established limited company with 2+ years of clean credit and a healthy balance sheet will access the lowest rates. Sole traders and self-employed buyers typically pay slightly more because income evidence is less standardised.

The age of the van matters too - newer vans have better residual values, which makes lenders more comfortable. Used vans, particularly those over 5 years old, attract a risk premium because the asset is closer to the end of its useful life.

The deposit you put down affects the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio. A lower LTV reduces the lender's risk and can improve the rate offered. The term length also plays a role - longer terms spread the cost but typically attract a slightly higher rate. Finally, the lender matters: as a whole-of-market broker, we can compare multiple lenders' rate cards for your specific profile.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What APR will I get on van hire purchase?

The rate depends on your credit profile, trading history, the van's age and value, and the deposit you put down. As a rough guide, an established business with clean credit can expect 7.9%–12.9% APR on a new van. Contact us for an indicative assessment.

Does a bigger deposit reduce my HP rate?

Usually yes. A larger deposit reduces the loan-to-value ratio, which reduces the lender's risk. Some lenders pass this directly into a lower rate; others keep the rate the same but reduce the monthly payment.

How long can a van HP term be?

Most lenders offer van HP terms of 24–84 months (2–7 years). The maximum term depends on the age of the van - most lenders require the van to be under 10 years old at the end of the term. Longer terms mean lower monthly payments but a higher total cost.
