What happens next

  1. Fill in the form. It takes about 2 minutes.
  2. We'll email you back with any additional questions, then match you with the right specialist for your situation.
  3. A specialist independent broker will contact you to discuss your situation and present options.

A poor credit history doesn't automatically mean you can't finance a commercial van. Many specialist lenders assess van finance applications based on the whole picture - your current trading, the asset you're buying, the deposit you can put down, and your ability to meet payments - not just a credit score from years ago. As an independent broker, we know which lenders are most likely to say yes to your application and at what rate.

What Counts as Bad Credit?

  • County Court Judgements (CCJs) - satisfied or unsatisfied
  • Defaults on previous credit agreements
  • Missed or late payments on loans, credit cards or previous vehicle finance
  • Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) - current or historical
  • Bankruptcy - discharged cases considered by some lenders
  • Low credit score with no significant adverse - often caused by thin credit file
FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Will a CCJ stop me getting van finance?

Not necessarily. Some specialist lenders will consider applications with CCJs, particularly if the CCJ is satisfied (paid off), if it is more than 12 months old, or if the amount was relatively small. The van value, deposit and trading history all factor into the assessment.

Will applying for van finance damage my credit score further?

A soft search (which we do initially to assess your position) does not affect your credit score. A full application involves a hard search which will show on your credit file. We will only proceed to a hard search once you are ready and we have identified the most likely lender.

How much deposit will I need with bad credit?

A larger deposit reduces the lender's risk. Some lenders require 20–30% or more for adverse credit applications. We'll advise what deposit level gives you the best chance with the lenders we know.

What rate can I expect with bad credit?

Rates for adverse credit van finance typically range from 14.9% to 22.9% APR depending on the severity of the adverse credit and the strength of everything else in your application. We'll give you an honest expectation before you apply.
