UK haulage companies - from owner-operators with one tractor unit to multi-vehicle fleets running national and international routes - depend on competitive truck finance to maintain and grow their operations. Rising fuel costs, driver shortages and the transition to electric vehicles have made cost management more important than ever. Doulton Bridging Finance helps hauliers of all sizes find the most competitive hire purchase, finance lease and contract hire across the UK's specialist HGV lender market.

Common Finance Needs in Haulage

Owner-operator - single tractor unit

HP is typically most suitable - own the vehicle outright at term end. Balloon HP reduces monthly costs while retaining ownership path.

Small fleet (2–10 vehicles)

Mix of HP and finance lease depending on cash flow and accounting preferences. Fleet agreements with specialist lenders can achieve better rates than single-vehicle deals.

Mid-size fleet (10–50 vehicles)

Contract hire and operating lease become more attractive - fixed costs, residual value managed by lender, maintenance packages available. Fleet rotation managed predictably.

Large fleet (50+ vehicles)

Major lenders (Lombard, Siemens Financial Services, manufacturer captives) with structured fleet finance and block discounting. Fleet tender process recommended.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I finance trucks for a haulage start-up?

Yes, with the right preparation. Specialist lenders will consider start-up hauliers with appropriate deposits, operator licence applications in progress, signed customer contracts and strong personal credit. See our new business guide for full details.

Can Doulton arrange fleet finance for multiple trucks at once?

Yes. We arrange multi-unit fleet deals and can approach lenders with a fleet package to achieve better rates than individual vehicle applications. Contact us with your fleet requirement.

How does sale and leaseback work for a haulage fleet?

You sell trucks you own to a finance company, who then leases them back to you at a fixed monthly rate. This releases working capital from the fleet without disrupting operations. Useful for cashflow management or funding business growth.

Can I mix tractor units and trailers in a fleet finance deal?

Tractor units and trailers are usually financed separately - different assets with different depreciation profiles, often with different lenders. We can arrange both simultaneously.
