The 26-tonne rigid is a popular choice for construction logistics, general haulage and waste management. With three axles, 26t rigids offer a significantly higher payload than 18t trucks while remaining more manoeuvrable than a 32t 8-wheeler. New 26t trucks cost approximately £90,000–£130,000. Common choices include the Mercedes-Benz Actros 26t, DAF CF 26t, MAN TGM 26t and Volvo FM 26t.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 26t and 32t for a rigid?

A 26t 6-wheeler (three axles) can carry approximately 16–18t payload. A 32t 8-wheeler (four axles) can carry approximately 20–22t. The 32t is more complex and expensive; the 26t is more manoeuvrable and popular for mixed urban and regional work.

What body types are most common on 26t trucks?

Curtainsider (most common for general haulage), flatbed (construction, abnormal loads), tipper (aggregates, waste), box van (retail distribution, chilled/frozen). Body type affects finance rate marginally - tippers and specialist bodies are fractionally higher.

What lenders specialise in 26t trucks?

Haydock Finance, Close Brothers and Lombard are all active in the 26t market. Manufacturer captive arms (Daimler Truck FS, DAF Financial Services) are relevant if buying new from a dealer.

Can I finance a 26t truck with a new business?

It is challenging but possible with the right approach. A larger deposit (25–35%), strong personal credit history and evidence of secured contracts can help. Talk to us - we know which lenders are most flexible.
