The construction sector is one of the largest users of heavy goods vehicles in the UK. From 7.5t tipping skip loaders serving small contractors to 32t 8-wheel aggregate tippers serving quarries and major road builders, Doulton Bridging Finance works with lenders who understand construction sector operating economics and the demands placed on vehicles in this environment.
Common Construction Truck Finance Scenarios
Groundworks contractor
1–3 tippers (7.5t or 18t), skip loader. HP with seasonal payment profiles sometimes available through specialist lenders.
Aggregates and quarrying
32t 8-wheel tippers, possibly HIAB crane for site deliveries. HP or finance lease depending on company structure.
Major housebuilder supply chain
Multiple flatbeds and curtainsiders for materials delivery. Fleet finance packages with predictable monthly costs.
Plant hire with transport
Low-loaders for plant delivery, flatbeds for materials. Can be financed alongside plant and machinery through the same specialist lenders.
If carrying goods for hire or reward (i.e. charging customers), yes - a Restricted O-licence at minimum. For own-account operations (carrying your own materials to your own sites), different rules apply. DVSA guidance on this is specific - we recommend confirming your situation with a transport consultant.
Can I finance a tipper for a new construction business?
Challenging but possible. Larger deposits, signed contracts with groundwork principals and evidence of construction industry experience help significantly. We know which lenders are most flexible for construction startups.
What is a HIAB crane-bodied truck and can it be financed?
A HIAB (or Palfinger) crane is a hydraulic lorry loader fitted to a truck, allowing self-loading and unloading of materials on site. These are financed as a whole asset (chassis + crane body) at slightly higher rates than standard trucks. From 5.5% APR on new, strong credit.
Can I bundle truck and plant finance in one application?
In some cases yes - specialist asset finance lenders who cover both sectors can consider a combined application. Contact us with your full requirement and we will advise on the best approach.
