The UK haulage industry faces a mandatory transition to zero-emission heavy goods vehicles, with the government's Zero Emission HGV and Coach standard requiring all new HGVs to be zero emission by 2040. Electric trucks are now commercially available from all major manufacturers, with ranges of 200–500km making them viable for urban distribution, regional logistics and some long-haul applications. Doulton Bridging Finance arranges specialist finance for electric trucks, navigating the unique considerations of EV asset finance.

Why Finance Lease Suits Electric Trucks
Unlike diesel trucks where hire purchase (ownership at end of term) is most popular, finance lease is often recommended for electric trucks because:
The lender carries the residual value risk - protecting you from technology obsolescence
Battery degradation is uncertain over 5+ years - lease removes this risk
Manufacturers are updating ranges and technology rapidly - shorter terms maintain flexibility
Some lenders offer balloon HP with guaranteed future value (GFV) on EV trucks - worth exploring
The Zero Emission Trucks and Coaches programme (run through OZEV) has historically offered grants on eligible vehicles. Availability and amounts change - we recommend checking current gov.uk guidance. We can help you understand how grant funding interacts with your finance structure.
Can I finance charging infrastructure alongside the truck?
In some cases, yes. Some specialist lenders will consider infrastructure (depot charging points, grid upgrades) as part of a whole-site finance package. This is case-by-case and depends on asset values and lender appetite.
What happens to EV truck residuals?
Electric truck residuals are currently uncertain - the used EV truck market is thin. This is precisely why finance lease (where the lender carries the residual) is often recommended over hire purchase for EV trucks.
Can I mix electric and diesel trucks in a fleet finance package?
Yes. We can arrange fleet finance packages that include both EV and diesel assets, potentially with different lenders and structures for each asset class. This is common in transitioning fleets.
