The UK waste management and recycling sector operates a diverse range of specialist vehicles, from municipal refuse collection trucks (RCV/REL) to skip loaders, hookloaders, roll-on/roll-off trucks, street sweepers and recycling vehicle bodies. Doulton Bridging Finance works with specialist lenders experienced in the waste sector and familiar with the operating economics of waste collection and recycling operations.

Waste Sector Vehicle Types

  • Refuse Collection Vehicle (RCV) - rear-loading or side-loading; local authority and private waste contractor use
  • Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) truck - large container handling for commercial and industrial waste
  • Skip loader - 6yd/8yd skip collection for construction and commercial sites
  • Hookloader - demountable body system for multiple skip/container sizes
  • Street sweeper - road cleaning; often local authority tendered
  • Tipper/bulker - for recyclable materials in bulk

Doulton Bridging Finance compares specialist HGV lenders alongside any manufacturer captive finance offers on waste sector vehicles. We understand that waste and recycling operations often have contract-based revenue streams that support asset finance applications.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I finance refuse collection vehicles for a local authority tender?

Yes. Where a business has secured a local authority waste collection contract, this provides strong evidence of future revenue that lenders can factor into their assessment. This can significantly improve finance terms.

What is a Waste Carrier licence and when is it needed?

A Waste Carrier licence (from the Environment Agency) is required to transport controlled waste - most commercial and industrial waste. It is not required for carrying your own waste. This is separate from the Operator's Licence for the vehicle.

Can I finance a street sweeper?

Yes. Street sweepers are specialist assets financed by HGV asset finance lenders familiar with municipal vehicles. Rates and terms are similar to other specialist body types.
