Large Ticket (£2m+): Who to Use

For transactions above £2 million, Lombard, HSBC and Lloyds are typically the most competitive. HSBC and Lloyds favour existing relationship clients; Lombard is more accessible to new borrowers. At £5m+, relationship banking with a major bank usually delivers the best headline rate, but professional broker presentation is essential.

Smaller Ticket (Under £500k): Who to Use

For transactions below £500,000, Close Brothers and Hampshire Trust are the most practical lenders. Lombard also competes here. The clearing banks (HSBC, Lloyds) are not set up for sub-£500k aircraft transactions. Close Brothers is the fastest; Hampshire Trust is a useful fallback; Lombard is competitive on rate.

SPV Structures: Which Lenders Accept Them?

N-Registration: Which Lenders Finance It?

N-registered (FAA) aircraft present additional legal complexity for UK lenders because the mortgage must be registered with the FAA in Oklahoma City. Not all lenders are willing to do this. Lombard and Close Brothers both finance N-registered jets. HSBC will consider it for existing clients. The clearing banks generally prefer G-registration.

EI-Registration: Which Lenders Finance It?

AIB UK is the most natural choice for EI-registered aircraft, given their Irish banking heritage. Close Brothers also finance EI-registered jets. Most other lenders prefer G-registration.

The Broker Advantage

Doulton Bridging Finance tests the whole market simultaneously. Rather than approaching one lender and hoping for approval, we present your case to the most relevant lenders at the same time, negotiate competing offers, and recommend the optimal structure. Our service is typically cost-neutral to you - broker fees are paid by the lender on completion.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which lender offers the best business jet finance rate in the UK?

In October 2026, Lombard and HSBC offer the lowest headline rates from 5.5%, but these are only available to strong borrowers on larger transactions. The best rate for your situation depends on ticket size, registration, borrower profile and whether you have an existing banking relationship.

Are SPV structures more expensive to finance?

Not necessarily. Many lenders are familiar with SPV ownership and lend on standard terms, subject to director guarantees. A well-structured SPV can actually improve your financing options and VAT position.

What LTV do business jet lenders offer?

Most lenders will fund 70%–80% LTV on a new or recent aircraft, falling to 60%–70% for older aircraft. Some lenders will go to 85% for strong borrowers. A deposit of at least 20%–30% is usually required.

Is it better to go direct to a bank or use a broker for business jet finance?

Using a broker like Doulton Bridging Finance typically secures better terms because we can test the whole market simultaneously, package your case professionally and use panel relationships to access rates not available directly.

Can I get business jet finance with a new company?

A new company with no trading history can be challenging. Lenders will focus heavily on the directors' personal financial strength and may require a larger deposit. Hampshire Trust and Close Brothers are more open to newer entities than the clearing banks.

Finance taken for business purposes is not regulated by the FCA. Rates shown are indicative as at October 2026 and depend on credit profile, term, aircraft and deposit. We act as a credit broker, not a lender. Your aircraft may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments.
